Giles studied in Manchester, Berlin, Vienna and Paris, and was Platt Physiological Scholar at Owens College Manchester in 1886. He was a house surgeon at MRI and resident medical officer at Crumpsall Hospital Manchester before being appointed to St Marylebone Dispensary. He later became a well known gynaecologist in London. He was consultant surgeon at Chelsea Hospital for Women, gynaecologist at the Prince of Wales General Hospital, Tottenham, and consultant gynaecological surgeon at Sutton Hospital, Passmore Edwards Hospital and Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital, Welwyn. Giles was a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and was president of the Section of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Giles was also honorary secretary and vice-president of the Section of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the BMA. Giles was a master of the Drapers' Company in London, after his death he left the Company a significant sum. Giles died on 26 December 1935.
