After graduating, Ford was resident medical officer to the Fourth Australian General Hospital of the Australian Imperial Forces before being appointed assistant honorary physician to Brisbane General Hospital. After holding various hospital appointments in Manchester, Bristol and Newcastle, Ford went into general practice in Fairfield, Manchester. Ford was district medical officer and public vaccinator for Droylsden and Audenshaw. He died on 30 November 1935 aged forty six.
