Benham was born in Prestwich on 26 April 1913. He had a distinguished undergraduate career at Manchester before attaining house appointments at MRI and Salford Royal Hospital. He was then AMO at Prestwich Hospital for four years before being appointed RMO at Withington Hospital. Benham was in the Royal Army Medical Corps for two years with the rank of Major. He was appointed senior registrar to the neurological unit at MRI and then in 1950 was appointed to Ashton where he remained until he retired in 1973. Benham was a member of Manchester Medical Society . He died on 9 March 1974.
