Geiler received her medical education at the University of Manchester and held junior positions at Manchester and Salford Hospital for Skin Diseases and MRI before being appointed medical officer for the outpatients department at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. Geiler was later appointed medical officer for the children's outpatients department at St Mary's Hospital Manchester. In 1940 she married Alexander Thomson, becoming Dorothy Thomson. She later worked in general practice with him in Stafford.
