Ian Menzies Gow, the son of John Gow, was born in Manchester on 30 March 1923 and received his medical education at the University of Manchester. After qualifying, Gow was house surgeon at MRI before serving in the RAMC as anaesthetist. On his return to Manchester in 1949 Gow was appointed senior resident anaesthetist, later promoted to senior anaesthetics registrar. In 1952 Gow became consultant anaesthetist to South the University of Manchester Hospitals and honorary lecturer in anaesthetics at the University of Manchester, positions he held until retirement in 1992. He specialised in anaesthesia for ENT cases with Treacher-Collins syndrome. Gow died on 3 April 2001.
