Gilbody was child health officer and school medical officer for Salford and deputy medical officer of health for Bury. She went to Trafford Area Health Authority as a specialist in community medicine (child health), later becoming deputy medical officer. Gilbody was a member of the Society for Community Medicine and Manchester Paediatric Club.
