Archer was born in Huddersfield. He qualified at the University of Manchester, and was an aural surgeon at Cambridge Hospital, Aldershot. He also worked at MRI and Manchester Ear Hospital, before becoming consultant surgeon (ENT) at Manchester Northern Hospital, Stockport and Buxton Hospital Group and Warrington Hospital Group. Archer was a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine ( president of Section of Otolaryngology) and a member of North of England Otolaryngology Society, and of Manchester Medical Society . He retired in 1958 and died on 4 March 1979.
