Gimson he house positions at the Victoria Hospital Worksop and Ashton-under-Lyne District Infirmary before being appointed resident medical officer at Withington Hospital Manchester. Gimson was later appointed anaesthetist to Crumpsall, Booth Hall, Stretford and St Mary's Hospitals in Manchester, and was honorary anaesthetist to St John's Hospital for the Ear, Nose and Throat, Manchester. Gimson was also medical officer for the Manchester, Salford and District Mothers' Clinic. She was a member of the Medical Women's Association.
