MRCS Eng 1847, LSA 1848; MD St Andrews 1850.

Birch was a Manchester Surgeon. In 1850 he was surgeon to the Fever Hospital, by the next year was surgeon to Canal Street Hospital and demonstrator of anatomy in the Manchester Royal School of Medicine [Pine Street]. He later moved to Shropshire and then to London, where he died in 1908 aged 81.
