Born in Burnley on 19 June 1929, Eddleston trained at Manchester and held junior positions at MRI and Ancoats Hospital Manchester. He was later appointed consultant radiologist at MRI and consultant in charge of the diagnostic x-ray service at Christie Hospital Manchester. Eddleston was also honorary lecturer in radiology at the University of Manchester and a member of Manchester Medical Society .
