Bailey was chief assistant to the neurosurgical unit MRI, senior demonstrator in anatomy at Middlesex Hospital Medical School and Psychiatrist at North Battlefield Mental Hospital. He later became clinical demonstrator in anatomy at University of Manchester and temporary neurosurgeon at Crumpsall Hospital. Bailey was a member of the Association of British Neurosurgeons and a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.
