Barrett was born in Stockport on 1 December 1884. He was educated at Stockport Grammar School and the University of Manchester. After qualifying, Barrett held house positions at MRI and Northern Hospital for Women and Children, Manchester until 1915. He was a captain in the RAMC during the first world war. From 1920 to 1947 Barrett worked as a general practitioner in Hulme and Walley Range with his wife Ada Lois Barrett. Barrett was a member of Manchester Medical Society . Barrett died on 21 February 1978.
