Scope and Content

This volume contains a handbook for judges including extracts from Arabic juristic works that are then explained in Ottoman Turkish, as well as sukuk. It can be divided into the following sections:. (I) ff 1v-4r : A list of the various kaza dated from 1109 AH (1697-98 CE), followed by a list of the hours of the day and the planets that preside over them, bound upside down;. (II) ff 2v-26v : A collection of copies of legal documents beginning with some on divorce. A folio of the list of kaza has been wrongly bound with them (ff 14v-15v);. (III) ff 26v-225v : The main portion of the book (of which the index extends to f 30v) consists of sukuk ending on f 225v. After this, the unnamed author mentions the circumstances under which he wrote this work. During his services as kadı, he collected the documents (ranging in date from 1064 to 1081 AH (1653-71 CE) and when he retired from the kaza of Manisa in 1090 AH (1679-80 CE), he found the time to edit the material that he collected completing his work in 1092 AH (1681-82 CE);. (IV) ff 226r-249r : More huccetler and medicinal recipes. The folios included in the volume are badly stained by water, and some were displaced in binding. The manuscript is undated but is likely from the late 17th century CE.
