Scope and Content

This volume contains an Ottoman Turkish translation of the Forty Sayings of the Prophet Muhammad صلعم by Seyit İbrahim called Seyit Osmanzade, with a Persian metrical paraphrase by Jāmī. This Ottoman Turkish version, of which no other copy appears to be recorded, is dedicated to Abdülhamit I (reigned 1773-89 CE), and opens with a prose preface (ff 1v-2r). The source of each Hadith has been written in the margin mostly red, but occasionally in black. The original Arabic text has been written in gold in a larger hand than the Ottoman Turkish. The text contains a single gilt unvan. This manuscript is undated, but it was likely copied in the early 19th century CE.
