Scope and Content

This text is a firman issued in the name of Sultan Mahmud I (reigned 1143-68 AH/1730-54 CE). The document concerns the vakıf of Küçük Ahmed Paşa (died 1046 AH/1636 CE) located in the Umayyad Mosque, the vakıf of former Grand Vizier Sinan Paşa (probably Koca Sinan Paşa, died 1004 AH/1596 CE) in the city, and the remuneration of teachers at a medrese in the city's Salihiye neighbourhood. Both Küçük Ahmed and Koca Sinan served as governors of Damascus. The text is surmounted by the tuğra of Sultan Mahmud, surrounded by gold ornament with highlights in red. The firman was produced in Istanbul, and is dated Rebiyülevvel 1150 AH/July 1737 CE.
