Scope and Content

This volume contains the letters and correspondence of Mesihi, the well-known poet who was Divan (Secretary) to Hadım Ali Paşa. Although most authorities follow Aşık Çelebi and Kınalızade and take 918 AH (1512-13 CE) as the date of his death, several of the letters bear dates after this time, including 919 AH (1513-14 CE) (ff 46v, 77r-v); 920 AH (1514-15 CE) (ff 7v, 11r, 13r, 23r, 29v, 30r, 34r); and 922 AH (1515-16 CE) (f 121v). Other letters are dated 910 AH (1504-05 CE) (f 48v) and 918 AH (1512-13 CE) (f 89r), but the dates on most letters have been omitted. In many cases, the headings of the leaders have not been written in the spaces left blank for them. The first folio of the volume has been provided at a later date, and notes at the beginning and end of the text give the dates 1125 AH (1713 CE) and 1168 AH (1754-55 CE). The text contains a single unvan. This manuscript was likely copied in the early 18th century CE.
