Scope and Content

This volume contains a descriptive catalogue in Latin of the Ottoman and Eastern Turki manuscripts collected by Claudius Rich (1787-1821) now found at British Library shelf marks Add MS 7830-7939. The manuscripts are described in numerical order, one per folio. In most cases, the verso is blank. Add MS 7848 has a heading but no entry. There is no index. The present catalogue was compiled by Josiah Forshall (1795-1863). Forshall joined the British Museum Department of Manuscripts in 1824. He served as Keeper of that Department from 1827, and also as Secretary to the Museum from 1828 to 1850, completing this catalogue towards the end of that period. He also produced several other catalogues.
