[Four Ottoman Turkish works relating to pilgrimage]

This volume contains the following four works relating to pilgrimage to Makkah and Madinah, three of which are untitled and anonymous:. (I) ff 1v-50r : Treatise on rites of hacc and on visiting the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad صلعم at Madinah, arranged into 20 bablar. This resembles other works of its kind. The author refers in their preface to the standard Arabic-language works upon which this Ottoman Turkish version is based and indicates the subject of each chapter;. (II) ff 50v-56r : Traditionally approved formulae of prayer (dualar) to be used at appropriate moments during the hacc and ziyaret;. (III) ff 56v-85r : La'l ul-musaffa fi ziyaret il-Mustafa, a treatise on the etiquette and legal aspects of ziyaret at the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad صلعم in Madinah, by Hanif İbrahim Efendi (died 1217 AH/1802-03 CE);. (IV) ff 85v-91v : An alphabetical list of the mnames of prominent Ashab of the Prophet Muhammad صلعم. The work also includes a list of staging points from Makkah to Üsküdar, which are 82 in total (f 92v). There are unvans on ff 1v, 50v, 56v, and 85v, as well as Arabesque illumination on ff 91v and 92r. The last folio shows slight damage from worms. The manuscript contains a colophon (f 91v) where we learn that it was copied by Ahmet Resmi, pupil of Katibzade Calullah ut-Takizade in 1186 AH (1772-73 CE).
