Scope and Content

This volume contains a collection of official letters which passed between the French Embassy in Istanbul and the Porte on the commercial affairs of French subjects, as well as other topics. Those on ff 5v, 6r, 6v, 7r, 7v, 8v and 51v are dated 1090 AH (1679-80 CE). The letters are followed by notes on the order of precedence in the Ottoman Empire according to protocol (f 61v); on the grades of the mansips in the Divan-i Hümayun; and a list of public gardens (ff 63v-64v) and of the baths of Istanbul (ff 65v-66r). This is followed by a list of the types of artisans liable to military service. The manuscript was likely copied in the late 17th century CE.
