Scope and Content

The papers of Ali Paşa (1815-1871), several times Grand Vizier and Foreign Minister in the reign of Abdülaziz (1861-1876), laminated and guarded in two volumes. The papers, which are not organized according to any particular scheme, have suffered much from damp. Vol. 1:. (ff. 1r-6r) Correspondence between the Ottoman Government and the French Embassy, dated 1283 AH/1866-67 CE;. (ff. 7r-41r) Official correspondence on Egyptian affairs;. (ff. 42r-50v) Some letters in French on the same topic;. (ff. 50v-83r) Reports on affairs in Wallachia and Moldavia;. (ff. 83r-128v) Minutes of a committee set up to prepare a constitution;. The contents of this volume are all drafts of official letters, except for ff 181 and 207, both of which are private letters, and an official memorandum concerned with money-changers, dated 1140 AH (1761 CE) (f. 327r).
