Scope and Content

This volume contains an abridged translation from the Arabic of al-Ṭarīqat al-Muḥammadiyah (الطريقة المحمدية), a lengthy work on Islamic ethics and doctrine written by the famous Ottoman religious scholar Mehmet Pir Ali Birgili (or Birgevi or Birkavi) (died 981 AH/1573-74 CE). The Teshilü't-tarika is the work of İbrahim Babatağı. The contents of the current work are: Aḥādīth on fasting (f 2r); a list of the contents of the chapters (ff 2v-5r); the main text (ff 6v-267v); ethical diagrams (f 268r); notes by an Ottoman reader on the contents of some of the folios of this work (ff 269r-271r). The text contains numerous marginal annotations. This manuscript was copied by Mustafa İbn-i Musa el-Babatağı and collated with the original manuscript. It is dated 18 Şaban 1164 AH (12 July 1751 CE).
