Scope and Content

This volume contains the letters of Nabi Efendi, most of which are lacking titles despite the provision of space for them. The letters were collected and edited after the poet's death in 1124 AH (1712-13 CE) by Habeşizade, with a preface by the latter. The first part of the text consists of complimentary addresses, the second contains mostly letters addressed to Silahdar Ali Paşa Damat, the poet's patron. This copy is imperfect, ending in the middle of a letter on f 75r. This is followed by two folios (ff 76-77) decorated with plaited paper strands (hasır örgü); a copy of a letter by the Grand Vizier in the same hand as the earlier part of the manuscript, acknowledging the receipt of a letter from the Dar ul-Saadet Ağası (ff 78v-79v); a long letter from Nabi (ff 80v-88r); various model letters (ff 89r-96v); notes on inşa (ff 97v-98v); and more model letters (99v-109v). The manuscript was likely copied in the 18th century.
