Scope and Content

This volume contains one complete Divan and a part of a second one, as follows:. (I) ff 1v-61r : Divan-i Hasan Akıf el-Selaniki, the collected poetry of Hasan Akıf el-Selaniki (died 1243 AH/1827-28 CE). The identification of the poet has been made by means of a pencil note on the flyleaf that agrees with the latest date (1238 AH/1822-23 CE) mentioned in the chronograms. No other copies of this work appear to be recorded. The Divan begins with a na't, followed by kasideler and longer poems (ff 1v-24v), chronograms (ff 24v-34r), gazeller (ff 34v-59r; the first of which is in Persian); and the remaining sections are kıt'alar and müfredat (ff 59r-61r);. (II) ff 62r-85v : Part of the Divan-i Nu'man Mahir Bey, the collected poetry of Numan Mahir Bey (died 1259 AH/1843-44 CE). It is imperfect and ends in a gazel that terminates in elif. It opens with a prose preface, followed by a mesnevi, a na't, chronograms giving the dates 1240-41 AH (1824-26 CE), and kasideler. The gazeller begin on f 84v and continue to the end. Although the work is undated, it was likely copied in the middle of the 19th century CE.
