Scope and Content

This volume contains the poetry of Lami'i (Osman İbn-i Ali, died 938 AH/1531-32 CE). The text is divided as follows:. ff 1v-31v : Prose preface;. ff 33v-82v : Defter I, kasideler;. ff 83v-106r : Defter II, containing tercibendler, murabbaat, muhammesat and other poems;. ff 107v-194r : Defter III, gazeller, preceded by a fragment of a mesnevi;. ff 194r-219r : Defter IV, müteferrikat, mukataat, rubaiyat, etc;. ff 219v-236v : Mesneviler. Two dates are expressed through chronograms: one on f 31v gives the date 901 AH (1495-96 CE), which must refer to the editing of the poems in this form by Lami'i; and 936 AH (1529-30 CE), which occurs on f 31r. This is presumably the date when the prose preface dedicated to Süleyman I was added and the copying of the manuscript completed. Confirmation that this item is an autograph is found on f 2r, where a note states that the manuscript is in the hand of Lami'i and that it came into the hands of his grandson Mehmet İbn-i Ahmet in 993 AH (1585 CE). The seal of Lami'i's son Ahmet appears in several places on the same folio.
