Scope and Content

This volume contains the following five texts :. (I) (ff 2v-5r) : Hilyetü'n-Nebi, a fragment of the complete text composed by Hakani. This section corresponds to ff 9r-17r in Add MS 7936;. (II) (ff 5v-65v) : A work on the lives and merits of the ashab of the Prophet Muhammad صلعم and the early Caliphs, without a preface, title or name of author. Its contents are as follows: Ayşe (ff 5v-6v); Ashab (ff 6v-10r); Ebu Bekr (ff 10r-15v); Ömer (ff 15v-23r); Osman (ff 23r-28r); Ali (ff 28r-30v); Hasan (ff 30v-32v); Hüseyin and the rest of the 12 İmamlar (ff 32v-38v); Kasım İbn-i Mehmet (ff 38v-40v); on the followers of the Prophet Muhammad صلعم and their prerogatives (Deramet-i Rusul) (ff 40v-51v); and on the duty of invoking blessings of the Prophet صلعم (ff 51v-65v). The notice on Hüseyin includes Füzuli's elegy on his death (f 34), the same as in the Hadikatu's-Suada (Add MS 7854, f 302). As it is given as the author's own composition, the natural inference would be that the prose is also by Füzuli. It must be remarked, however, that no such work is mentioned by his biographers or by Haj. Khal;. (III) (ff 66v-86r) : The Vakıaname of Veysi, in which the author describes his dream;. (IV) (ff 86v-98v) : Miscellaneous extracts, mostly relating to forms of prayer and Ahadith;. (V) (ff 100v-187r) : A work without title or author's name, containing exhortations to a life of devotion and piety, illustrated with anecdotes, as well as quotations from the poems of Attar and copious extracts from the Mesnevi of Celaleddin Rumi. The author appears to have lived in Crimea, as he quotes, on f 181v, a Crimean Tatar proverb (Tatar'da misaldır). Most sections begin with the words İmdi beni ruhum, apparently addressed to a son or a disciple. One of the latest and most frequently quoted authors is Seyit Alizade, that is Yakup İbn-i Seyit Ali, who died in 931 AH (1524-25 CE). The manuscript was copied in Amed (Diyarbakır) by Hadim el-fukura muharrem tabi'-i Hazret Vezir-i Mükerrem Derviş Mehmet Paşa and was completed on 20 Zulhicce 1052 AH (11 March 1643 CE).
