Scope and Content

This volume contains the collected poetry of Salik Çelebi, who, according to Karatay, was Divan Efendisi and died in 1215 AH (1800-01 CE). The source of this information is not given, but as the other poet of this mahlas died in 1135 AH (1722-23 CE) and there are chronograms in this Divan dated as late as 1193 AH (1779-80 CE), the identification must be correct. The Divan is divided up as follows: kasideler (ff 1v-54v); Arabic poems (ff 55v-60r); gazeller interspersed with rubaiyat (ff 60v-104r); muammayat (ff 104v-112v); terciibentler (ff 113v-117v); rubaiyat (ff 118v-119r); mukattaat (ff 119v-120v); müfredat (ff 121v-123r). The Divan ends with a collection of chronograms (ff 123v-141r). The final one of these gives the date 1150 AH (1737-38 CE), stating, among other autobiographical detais, that Salik was twenty years of age at this time. The indications are that this is an autograph and the date of transcription could not have been later than 1193 AH (1779-80 CE), by which year the poet would have been 63.
