Scope and Content

This volume contains the following two works:. (I) Tercüme-yi Tarikat-ı Muhammediye ve Siret-i Ahmediye, a translation from Arabic of al-Ṭariqat al-Muḥammadiyah wa sīrat al-Aḥmadiyah (الطريقة المحمدية و سيرة الاحمدية), a treatise on Islamic doctrine and practice by Mehmet İbn-i Pir Ali Birgili (died 981 AH/1573 CE). The present translation is that of Mehmet İsmeti;. (II) Kitab-i terşihat, a compilation by Mustafa Nasuh Çelebi el-Belgradi (died 985 AH/1577-78 CE) containing passages from the Qur'an and Ḥadīth literature and from a number of works concerning Şuyuh of the Nakşibendi, various philosophers, aspects of the alem-i misal, and also from Rumi's Mesnevi and similar works. Both works were written in the same hand, with the colophon of text II listing the copyist as Mustafa Şehmati el-Serayi İbn-i Ahmet. The date of transcription is provided as 1113 AH (1701-02 CE).
