Scope and Content

This volume contains a collection of anecdotes on various topics. The majority of the texts relate to historical issues, interspersed with excerpts from various works, including Aufi's work of a similar title (see ff 297v-298r). The author of the work does not give their name, and mentions on f 3r that they began this work in 1035 AH (1625-26 CE). They also worked in the Divan (ff 34r, 67v, 73r, 119r, 176v, 178v, 183r, 204r, 226v, 255r, 275v, 277r, 326r). There is, moreover, a note on f 370v, that the book was completed by the late Hüseyin Efendi, Reis ül-Küttab, in 1080 AH (1668-69 CE). This seems likely, as there was an Acemzade Hüseyin Efendi holding this position at this period (see SO II, p. 198, where the date of his death is given as 1098 AH/1686-87 CE and Sefinetü'l-rüesa by Ahmet Resmi (pp 41-42), where he is described as a pir-i kühen-sai). There is also a reference to Acemzade Hüseyin Efendi in the Tarih-i Mehmet Efendi.. This volume was copied in the late 17th century, probably in 1080 AH (1668-69 CE), in three different hands: Divani (ff 1v-11v; 1-4v-106v; 275v-276r); and Nesih (ff 12r-104r; 107r-275r; 276v-370v). There are notes (one giving the date 1080 AH) and anecdotes in Divani on the end-papers, as well as a list of the dates of accession of the Ottoman Sultans up to Selim III and two astronomical diagrams on ff 31r-42.
