This text contains a diploma from the Beirut Police College, under the Ottoman Directorate of Public Security (Emniyet-i Umumiye Müdüriyeti). It is a printed document with several handwritten additions in manuscript. The diploma certifies that Şükri son of Ali has passed the qualifying examinations in the eleven subjects listed; apart from those pertaining directly to the law, these include writing, hygiene and first aid, photography, and sketching. Ten witnesses' seal impressions, followed by that of the Emniyet-i Umumiye Müdüri himself, appear on the front of the diploma. The partly handwritten text begins:. Üç yüz yirmi yedi senesi Ağustos ila Kânun-i Sani aylarına müsadif ikinci devre-i tahsiliyede kendisi zahr-i şahadetnamede muharrer Ali oğlu Şükri Efendi balada mezkûr derslerden bi'l-imtihan. The diploma is dated 17 Safer 1330 AH and 25 Kânun-i Sani 1327 (6 or 7 February 1912 CE). The endorsements on the reverse record the dates of Şükri's induction, training and graduation, and show that he subsequently entered the Police Force in Jerusalem.
