Scope and Content

This volume contains an anthology of chronograms, of which a large proportion are by Süruri, classified according to various events; for example, the accession of Sultan Mahmud II in 1223 AH (1808 AH). The text begins with a chronogram by Arif. Other evens commemorated are the first year of the reign of each Sultan up to Mahmud II; the birth of imperial princes; the terms of office of Grand Viziers and other high officials; the deaths of prominent personalities and important events in Ottoman history. Towards the end of the volume, the chronograms become longer and more elaborate and the character of the anthology changes to include poems which are not chronograms, among which is an elegy on the death of Selim III by Fazıl. The manuscript was copied in the first half of the 19th century.
