Scope and Content

This volume contains an allegorical mesnevi consisting primarily of a long dialogue between the author, Ali Dede Bey İbn-i İdris Hacci, and Hikmet. According to the Persian prose preface, the author, who belonged to the district of Taşköprü in the province of Kastamonu and was of the family of Mervan Oğur, began the poem in 890 AH (1485 CE) after seeing a vision. On f 253r he states that the poem was composed in 905 AH (1500 CE). The first line of the poem, however, gives 899 AH (1494 CE) as the composition of the poem was started. The manuscript was likely copied in the 16th century CE.
