Scope and Content

This volume contains the following two works:. ff 8v-82r : Gayet ül-müteha fi tedbir il-merza, an Ottoman Turkish translation of the Kitāb al-ṭibb al-jadīd al-kīmiyāᵓī alladhī akhtara ᵓu Barākilsūs, made from the Latin of Paracelsus by Hekimbaşı Salih İbn-i Nasrallah el-Halabi (died 1081 AH/1670 CE). The translator's name was Müderris Hasan, physician to the Grand Vizier İbrahim Paşa (most probably Damat İbrahim Paşa in the reign of Ahmet III). The text was copied in 1129 AH (1716-17 CE);. ff 83v-131r : Risale-yi akrabadin, a treatise on pharmacopoeia, without any attribution of authorship, based on European sources. This text was copied in the same hand as the first one, but ff 113-131 have been supplied in a different hand. The first seven folios of the manuscript contain coloured illustrations of retorts and other vessels used for the preparation of drugs.
