Scope and Content

This volume contains a copy of the legendary history of Amīr Ḥamzah, the uncle of the Prophet Muhammad صلعم, abbreviated from one of the longer Ottoman Turkish versions, possibly that of Hamzevi made around 1400 AH. This recension, which bears the illuminated heading 'İbtida-yi kıssa-yı Ahter u Bahter', is imperfect and ends with the siege of the fortress of Sangbar. The manuscript contains one illustration, which is clearly based on a Persian painting from the Shāhnāmah of Firdavsī showing Rustam lassoing the Khāqān of Chīn. This manuscript was copied in the first half of the 16th century CE.
