Scope and Content

This volume contains an Ottoman Turkish translation of an Arabic work by Ali Dede el-Bosnavi entitled Muḥāḍarāt al-awā'il wa musāmarāt al-awākhir (محاضرات الاوائل ومسامرات الاواخر), which is based on a larger work by Suyūṭī. It consists of a collection of historical notes and traditions, relating to the origin, beginning and ending of all kinds of matters. The translator, Dukaginzade Osman (died 1012 AH/1603-04 CE), was asked by Gazanfer Ağa to undertake the work of translation (f 6r) and a list of the additional sources used by him in this endeavour appears on f 146v. The name of the reigning Sultan, Mehmet III, appears on f 5v.. Karatay claims, based on a different copy of the work, that it is arranged alphabetically and deals with the persons who were the first to perform certain acts and have certain experiences. He does not, however, say that the work is a translation from a work done by Ali Dede Bosnavi. . The text contains a single unvan. . This manuscript was copied by İbrahim İbn-i Mehmet Ali el-Ardanuci in 1170 AH (1756-57 CE). .
