Modern Records Centre, University of Warwick

The Centre was established in 1974. It aims to collect and make available for research original sources for British political, social and economic history, with particular reference to labour history, industrial relations and industrial politics.

The Centre is open to all serious researchers. Advance notice of a visit can prove mutually helpful. Some deposits are subject to restrictions on their use for research. Some may only be read after permission has been obtained from the depositor.

Opening Hours:

09:00 - 17:00 Monday-Tuesday
09:00 - 19:00 Wednesday-Thursday
09:00 - 16:00 Friday

On Wednesday and Thursday evenings, when the Centre is open until 7pm, readers are asked to order the documents they will require by 5pm. After 5pm no documents or theses can be produced.

The Centre's holdings are particularly strong for British trade unions and employers' associations. These include the archives of the Trades Union Congress and the Confederation of British Industry. It also holds the records of some interest groups and political organisations (including some from the West Midlands), of individuals and business (particularly the motor industry). The Centre also holds the National Cycle Archive, and for the University's Centre for Research in Ethnic Relations the 'Gurharpal Singh Archive - Communism in the Punjab,' which covers the 1920s to the 1970s.

Special features: Bicycle Clips, Join us for a spin around the new Hub!, pay&power, The Spanish Civil War.
