Scope and Content

Papers of various organisations, correspondence, articles, publications, press cuttings, photographs and ephemera. Journals (particularly 'News and Views') were added to the National Cycle Archive Journal Collection.

Administrative / Biographical History

Records of Derek Roberts, founder member and honorary secretary/treasurer of the Fellowship of Cycling Old-Timers, 1965-1980, also honorary editor from 1965. He was a founder member of the Southern Veteran-Cycle Club, and held the offices of honorary secretary, 1955-1960, honorary treasurer, 1955-1963 (with gaps), honorary editor, 1955-76, Vice-President, 1960-1961 and 1965-1966, and President, 1961-1962, 1966-1967, and 1980-81. He is also an honorary member of the Cycle Engineers' Institute.

Acquisition Information

This collection was deposited at the Centre as part of the National Cycle Archive by Andrew Millward, of the Cycle Touring and Countryside Trust (now the Cycling History and Educational Trust), in 1992-2001 and 2003. A futher deposit was made in 2008; 5 boxes of books and journals, listed as NCA/7/PUB, and 8 boxes of archives [unsorted]. 17 volumes of the magazine 'Cycling', covering part of the period 1911-1943, were added to the Cycling Journals Collection [NCJ].

A donation made by Alan Richardson of the 1933 News Chronicle Cycling and Open Road Annual was added to the holdings of this title within this collection in September 2008.

Two items deposited by the Trust in Septemebr 2009: 328/N7/4/3, 328/N7/516.

Further deposits were added in 2010 and 2014.

Journals have been added to the National Cycle Archive Jornals Collection where appropriate.
