Administrative / Biographical History

This body was formed in 1921 by the Civil Service Federation, the Civil Service Alliance and Post Office workers' associations. At this stage the CSC represented 87 associations with a total membership of 66,209. The Civil Service Clerical Association withdrew its membership in 1937, followed in 1938 by the Inland Revenue Staff Federation and the Ministry of Labour Staff Association. The CSC membership was reduced to a few small clerical and minor and manipulative associations and it was dissolved in 1939.

Custodial History

These records (except MSS.415/103/9) were in the custody of Dr I Beardwell of Kingston Polytechnic before being deposited at the Modern Records Centre in 1988.
