Scope and Content

Training manuals, publications and related items of the The Food, Drink and Tobacco Industry Training Board, Engineering Industry Training Board and other training boards; manuals and publications re the training of women, mostly from the Manpower Services Commission.

Administrative / Biographical History

In 1964 the Ministry of Labour was given powers to establish Industrial Training Boards (ITBs) by the Industrial Training Act. The Boards represented both employers and employees.They were responsible for introducing standards for training in different sectors of industry and providing advice to firms. A compulsory levy on the firms provided funding for trainees. The Boards were abolished in the 1980s.
