Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The AESD was formed in the early twentieth century. It became the DATA in 1960 despite a great deal of resistance from a large part of the membership. In April 1970 the AEF (Amalgamated Union of Engineering and Foundry Workers) amalgamated with the Draughtsmen's and Allied Technicians' Association (DATA) and the Constructional Engineering Union to form the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers (AUEW).
