Clerical Officers' Association (Civil Service), predecessor and successor

This collection includes: executive committee minutes; circulars; records of Scottish section and Post Office Savings Bank branch.

The Clerical Officers' Association (Civil Service) was founded in 1920, through the amalgamation of the Assistant Clerks' Association and the Post Office Engineering Clerical Assistants. The COA claimed representative rights for the entire clerical grade of the Civil Service and within a month of its formation had gained recognition for all clerical assistants, both men and women. In 1921 the Association merged with the Civil Service Clerical Union to form the Civil Service Clerical Association.
