This collection includes: National Amalgamated Labourers' Union working rules for certain workers in south Wales; Swansea General Strike Bulletin.

Administrative / Biographical History

Stanley Stephen Awbery was born on 19 July 1888. He joined the Dock, Wharf, Riverside and General Workers' Union when he worked at Swansea copper works in 1906 and stayed in the union after he became a docker in 1910. He later worked in the patent fuel industry. He was branch chairman in 1910 and branch secretary from 1914 to 1920. He later joined the Transport and General Workers' Union and was Barry District Secretary from 1926 to 1945. He served as Member of Parliament for Bristol Central from 1945 to 1964. He died on 7 May 1969.

He collected a number of items relating to trade union history and donated them to the T&G in 1965.
