These records seem predominantly to be those of the TCA but they also include records of the joint standing committee of the TCA and the Council of Principals and the Council of Principals itself, as well as a few post-dating the formation of the Association of Teachers in Colleges and Departments of Education. Many of the TCA's records were destroyed by bombing and little appears to have survived from before 1918.

Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Training College Association was founded in 1891 and amalgamated with the Council of Principals in 1943 to form the Association of Teachers in Colleges and Departments of Education (ATCDE).
Reference: J.D. Browne, 'Teachers of teachers', London, 1979.
Arrangement
This catalogue is based on one compiled by the depositor in which there appears to be overlap between records placed in different series. The list included six folders of the ATCDE's records which have been included in the catalogue of that organsation's archive.
