Scope and Content

Executive Committee and general meeting signed minutes, 1914-71 (including some annual reports and printed material); and minutes of miscellaneous committees, 1928-76.

The collection forms part of the archive of the British Clothing Industry Association (MSS.222), in which the records of various predecessor and related organisations are contained.

Administrative / Biographical History

The British Corset Manufacturers' Association Ltd. was founded in 1914 and went into voluntary liquidation in 1936. Re-emerging as the Corset Trade Association of Great Britain, it became the Corsetry Manufacturers' Association in mid-1954, and was one of the original constituents of the British Clothing Industry Association upon its establishment in 1980-1.

Acquisition Information

This collection was deposited with the Modern Records Centre between 1981 and 1997 by the British Clothing Industry Association and forms part of its archive.

Additional records were deposited in August 2010 as part of the UK Fashion & Textile Association Ltd collection.
