Administrative / Biographical History
George Patrick Sarsfield LaGrue (1875-1960) was born in Dublin, but after the failure of his father's boot-making business the family moved to London. By 1908 LaGrue was working for a firm of cabinet makers in Shoreditch, and he continued to work as a carpenter for a number of firms, working on such buildings as Bush House and the Carlton Theatre. During the early part of the Second World War, LaGrue was employed repairing bomb damaged houses, and in 1941 he became the caretaker of a rest centre for bombed-out families. After the war, he continued to work for the local church, and retired in 1955.
