Vellum Binders' Trade Society

Scope and Content

Annual reports, 1883-93; concert programmes, 1894.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Vellum Binders' Trade Society dates from 1823, although an earlier society for vellum binders had existed for a time before that date. The common ground it shared with the bookbinders led firstly to joint negotiations and agreements, and then to amalgamation with the Bookbinders and Machine Rulers' Consolidated Union, the Dayworking Bookbinders and the London Consolidated Lodge of Journeymen Bookbinders in 1911 to form part of the National Union of Bookbinders and Machine Rulers.
