Scottish Union of Dock Labourers and Transport Workers

Scope and Content

Rulebooks, 1913-1921; correspondence re Death Benefits, 1924-1925.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Scottish Union of Dock Labourers was established in 1911, mainly poaching members from the National Union of Dock Labourers, which many regarded as an English union. Its name was probably expanded in 1921 (and certainly after 1919). Its members initially voted against joining the amalgamation which formed the Transport and General Workers' Union in 1922, but it joined anyway before the end of the year.
