The deposit includes files relating to union administrative matters, agreements with employers, the National Economic Development Council (NEDC) and the Printing and Kindred Trades Federation (PKTF).

Administrative / Biographical History

R A W Emerick was the last General Secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Lithographic Printers before it joined the National Graphical Association in 1969. He took over the post in 1960, having previously been Assistant Secretary from 1957 and an Executive Council member representing No 3 District (London) from c 1955.

Appraisal Information

Approximately 10% of the original deposit was destroyed. The contents of some files were weeded or discarded completely. Duplicate material was also destroyed and only single specimens of ballot forms were retained.

Custodial History

The papers were originally in the custody of R A W Emerick, General Secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Lithographic Printers. In 1969 the Society transferred engagements to the National Graphical Association who deposited the papers in the Modern Records Centre in July 1984.
