Administrative / Biographical History

NATFHE was formed on 1 January 1976 by the amalgamation of the Association of Teachers in Colleges and Departments of Education and the Association of Teachers in Technical Institutions. In 1983, the 25-year-old Association of Teachers in Penal Establishments voted to transfer engagements into NATFHE. The following year, the Association for Adult and Continuing Education also agreed to join, and the Association of Agricultural Education Staffs joined in 1990. The AUT and NATFHE amalgamated in 2006 to become the University and College Union (UCU).
