Administrative / Biographical History

The Amalgamated Society of Gilders (also known as the Amalgamated Gilders' Society) was formed in 1880 following the merger of four London gilders' societies: The Old Phoenix, Hand in Hand, Kings Arms, and Perseverance. It absorbed the New Century Gilders Society in 1919, and in 1921 became Branch 183 of the National Amalgamated Furniture Trades Association.
