Administrative / Biographical History

The South Side Labour Protection League was formed during the Great Dock Strike of 1889, originally to represent dock workers on the south bank of the Thames. It later changed its name to the Labour Protection League. It was one of the founding unions of the Transport and General Workers' Union on 1 January 1922.
